Abstract:
In 2005, Thomas Friedman introduced us to a flatter world. Four years later, Curt Bonk’s book, "The World Is Open: How Web Technology Is Revolutionizing Education," helps show us how the flatter world has become much more open for teaching and learning across all age groups, educational sectors, and regions of the world. In The World is Open book, Bonk reviews ten technology trends he calls educational openers. These ten trends form the basis of his WE-ALL-LEARN framework; an optimistic view of the potential for a more free and open educational world. There are thousands of people who have led the way for each trend. These are the heroes, gurus, and revolutionaries of the shared Internet. Bonk spotlights the interesting stories of a few heroes underlying each trend. These case anecdotes will help personalize global technology events that are often overwhelming. He also outlines some of the technology tools that are emerging with each opener to radically transform education.
